Uganda’s former Premier Amama Mbabazi declares Presidential Bid

Former Premier Amama Mbabazi has declared he will be standing for President, In a you-tube video posted Early this morning, The former Premier who is also a founding member of the ruling NRM party said he will be standing as a flag bearer in the ruling NRM party, in effect challenging former ally and the country’s President Yoweri Museveni.

Mbabazi was forced out of his Job as secretary General of the NRM because of this suspected bid and will therefore be facing an uphill task to become the NRM flag bearer a position he will need if he is to stand a chance of becoming the country’s President.

A veteran of the liberation war that brought the ruling NRM and President Museveni to power, Mbabazi said he will be standing on issues of changing and dubbed his campaign ‘a campaign for the future and the core values of the NRM”. while some analysts have always insisted he(Mbabazi) is nothing without Museveni’s backing, this is starting to look like a battle for the soul of the ruling party. Mbabazi Promised to release more details on his plans for Uganda later in the week.

 

Who is Mbabazi?

Born in 1967, Mbabazi  was Uganda’s Prime Minsiter  from 24 May 2011 to 19 September 2014. Prior to this position, he served as the Minister for Security in the Ugandan Cabinet from February 2009 to May 2011. He also served as the Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement from November 2005 to January 2015.He is currently  the Member of Parliament for Kinkiizi West constituency in Kanungu District,western uganda, a position he has held since 1996 after the promulgation of the Constitution. and after the NRM liberation war, he served as founding director of the country’s Foreign Intelligence service ESO. A longterm ally of the country’s current President Yoweri Museveni, Mbabazi was at one time called super Minister during a time when he held  Ministerial Positions.
