The Uganda National Association of Building & Civil Engineering Contractors (UNABCEC) hosted its quarterly networking event (Cocktail party), this was last Friday at Kampala Serena Hotel poolside. The theme of the event was ‘The Impact of the 2015/2016 Budget on the Construction Industry’.
Speaking at the event, UNABCEC MD, Michel Mivule noted that the construction industry which comprises the building, civil engineering, water, sewerage, power, telecommunications and other physical infrastructure works, plays therefore a significant role in the socio-economic development of the nation.
“Construction is one of the most important industries in the national context with a wide range of outputs that often sets the nation’s political agenda and provides the basis for social and economic development. It contributes greatly to the gross domestic product (GDP), improving the livelihood of the citizens of the nation and acts as a catalyst for development of other economic sectors in the nation,” Michel said.
UNABCEC is a 22 year old, nonprofit, nonpolitical, member-driven association that brings together building and civil engineering contractors as well as construction related materials manufactures and suppliers of both goods and services to promote their mutual interests.
