Tanzanian ruling party’s presidential candidate extends his lead

The Tanzanian ruling party’s presidential candidate extended his lead in the country’s Oct. 25 elections with results from about a quarter of the constituencies counted, the National Electoral Commission said.

John Magufuli of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi party is beating opposition candidate Edward Lowassa in more than half of the 61 constituencies counted so far, Damian Lubuva, chairman of the commission, told reporters on Tuesday in the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam.
