This year’s games will again be aired live on Uganda Broadcasting Corporation stations after the national broadcaster renewed its partnership with the national basketball federation. Tiger Head Power and Star Times Falcons will open the series this Friday.
Mr Tibayeita added: “Pepsi is an iconic brand known for providing uplifting refreshment to its consumers, and Pepsi is a natural partner for a tournament with a growing and passionate following like basketball.”
The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations president, Mr Ambrose Tashobya, lauded Pepsi for the gesture, adding that FUBA was again excited to team up with Pepsi to connect with fans in ways they have never been reached and to ultimately enhance their enjoyment of the playoffs experience.
“We are delighted to have Pepsi as one of the key sponsors of the 2015 Pepsi Basketball Playoffs. Their involvement over the last couple of years is a great example of brands that support sports not only in Uganda but also the world over,” said Mr Tashobya.
The teams vying for the 2015 title are; Tiger Head Power, Star Times Falcons, City Oilers, UCU Canons, Our Saviour, Ndejje University Angels, KIU Titans and Stanbic Warriors in the Men’s elite division. In the Ladies top division; KIU Rangers, Magic Stormers, Nkumba Lady Marines, KCCA Leopards, Amazon Rhino, A-1 Challenge, UCU Lady Canons and Gladiators.
Taking place every end of the regular basketball league season, the playoffs have become one of the most anticipated sports series, routinely drawing capacity crowds. City Oil and KCCA Leopards are the defending champions of the Men and Women’s titles respectively.
The finals for the play-offs will be held in mid-December.
