One Confirmed Dead In Kanungu Nasty Accident

Crime Scene

In a tragic incident on September 12, 2023, at approximately 9 p.m., the Kanungu district police are on a relentless search for an individual who unlawfully operated a vehicle, resulting in the death of the vehicle’s rightful driver.

Elly Maate, the spokesperson for Kigezi regional police, has identified the deceased as Tumuhimbise Beston Kabirinda, the registered driver of motor vehicle UAV 314H Harrier, hailing from Kampala and en route to Kambuga in Kanungu district. The fatal incident occurred at Kembeho along Kanungu-Rukungiri Road in Kanungu District.

According to Maate’s account, the unfortunate incident unfolded when Kabirinda stopped at Kembeho, leaving his vehicle idling as he stepped outside to inspect something behind his car. Shockingly, the passenger seated in the front seat took advantage of the situation, slid into the driver’s seat, and reversed the vehicle, colliding with Kabirinda, who was inspecting the vehicle’s rear. As a result, the vehicle overturned, and the rogue driver managed to escape, remaining unidentified.

Tragically, Kabirinda suffered grave injuries and was promptly transported to Kambuga Hospital. Regrettably, he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 4 a.m. the following Wednesday.

Upon receiving the distressing report, the police swiftly responded. Sgt. Ndyanabo Willy, with the assistance of PC Kifunte Samuel, visited the scene, and motor vehicle registration number UAV 314H was towed to Kambuga Police Station Yard, pending an inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).

In a statement to the press, Maate disclosed that an investigation is underway, with the case officially registered at Kanungu under TAR 29/2023. The authorities are determined to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
