Last Friday evening was a night to remember, it was a night different from the usual where people come out of show with mixed reactions. Ugandans always complain about the poor sound, poor band, the poor lighting system and the wrong choice of artistes among others.
Ne-yo’s PopnJam concert sponsored by Bell Lager was short lived but with quality everything. From Ne-yo’s performance, the sound systems, the lighting and the queen dancers, the only problem was the poor weather but no one complained.
With all that, the PopnJam should be perhaps be ranked the best International show of the year. Ne-yo took to the stage at exactly 10:30 pm. This was after giving stage to curtain raisers like Jose Chameleon, Sheeba Karungi, Nutty Neithan and Navio.
The American singer performed just a few song but who cares, the performance was on point, he came on stage performing songs like She knows, one in a million, sexy love, Miss Independent and Because of you among others. His performance which also involved some bit of moonwalk
“I Love Uganda, Goodnight, it is not going to be my last concert in Uganda, I will surely comeback” those where Ne-yo’s words after performing the last song at 11:30pm. It was unusual for a show to end at that time, according to the Kampala Capital City Authority the shows are supposed to end at exactly midnight, so most of the concert ends at exactly midnight. Ne-YO left 30 minutes to the agreed upon time.
Ugandan artistes and events promoters should learn something from the PopnJam concert, it doesn’t matter if you perform 100 songs, you can perform a few songs but nice ones and with energy. Some Ugandan artistes only sample half of the song and switch to another.
