A devastating road accident that transpired at Naama Village along the Mityana-Mubende highway has claimed the lives of at least four individuals.

The collision occurred on Wednesday, involving a Mitsubishi Fuso truck with registration number UBK 415N, which collided head-on with an Isuzu tipper truck bearing the number UBH 369J at approximately 5 pm.

Racheal Kawala, the spokesperson for Wamala Regional Police, identified one of the deceased as 25-year-old Robert Bukenya, a resident of Naama Village in Mityana Municipality, who was the driver of the Isuzu tipper. The identities of the other three victims are yet to be ascertained.

Kawala provided details of the tragic incident, stating, “The driver of the Mitsubishi Fuso was traveling from the Mityana side towards Mubende. When he reached Mumsa High School, he attempted to overtake a trailer, resulting in a catastrophic head-on collision with an Isuzu tipper loaded with sand that was coming from the Mubende direction.”

Following the collision, the driver of the ill-fated Mitsubishi Fuso fled the scene, prompting a police manhunt as investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Ms. Kawala emphasized the importance of safe driving practices, urging motorists to refrain from overtaking when they cannot clearly see the road ahead.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to Mityana Hospital for postmortem examinations, while the damaged vehicles have been towed to Mityana police station as part of the ongoing investigation.
