In a striking revelation, the Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of Buganda, Mr. Charles Peter Mayiga, has vehemently criticized a clandestine action undertaken by a group of clan leaders (Bataka) within the Buganda region.
The group reportedly secured a piece of land from President Museveni without the knowledge or consent of the kingdom.
Katikkiro Mayiga addressed this concerning issue during the inaugural session of the 31st sitting of the Buganda Lukiiko. In his address, he expressed deep disappointment and concern over the actions of these officials, who were led by the State Minister for ICT, Ms. Joyce Ssebugwawo.
According to Katikkiro Mayiga, their actions constitute a grave mistake and he announced their impending summons to address this matter.
Minister Ssebugwawo, who once held the position of Buganda Kingdom’s minister of women, community development, and mobilization, is now entangled in a controversy that has stirred unrest within the kingdom.
The secretive land deal with President Museveni has cast a shadow on her and the clan leaders involved, sparking questions about transparency and accountability.
The Buganda Lukiiko’s first session revealed the deep-rooted concerns within the community about preserving the integrity of the kingdom and ensuring that its affairs are conducted openly and with the utmost respect for tradition.
As this unfolding saga captures the attention of Buganda’s populace, all eyes are now on the impending summons of the officials involved, signaling a pivotal moment for both the kingdom’s leadership and its people.
